Why Do Silicone Products Have Bubbles and How to Deal with Them?

Silicone products are frequently in life. A lot of things we use in our daily life are made of silicone. Nevertheless, when using silicone products, whether it is a silicone ice cube tray or silicone kitchenware, we sometimes will find bubbles on its surface or inside the products. Why silicone products have bubbles and how to deal with the bubble? This article is here to unravel the mystery and solve your problem.

1. How to get rid of the bubbles generated during the production of silicone products?

When the silica gel has not been cured, you can use a vacuum machine to extract bubbles. If there is no vacuum machine, you can also use a defoaming agent. But it doesnt work very well and is not able to get rid of all the bubbles. If you have neither of these two things, prolong the curing time of the silicone as long as possible, and then leave it there, the silicone product will slowly discharge bubbles by itself.

2. Reasons and treatment methods for air bubbles in the thermally conductive silicone sheet:

Low vulcanization temperature or high vulcanization temperature is one of the main reasons for the bubbles of the thermal conductive silicone sheet. The vulcanization temperature is an important parameter during the molding of silicone. Normally, the vulcanization temperature is set at 160~200 degrees Celsius, but sometimes the temperature is lower due to some reason, at this time, you only need to increase the molding temperature, or feed the empty mold into the machine and heat it for a period of time to solve the problem. If the vulcanization temperature is too high, it will also cause air bubbles in the thermal conductive silicone film. Why? When the molding temperature is too high, the silicone has already begun to form during the clamping and pressurizing process. At this time, it is difficult for the air trapped inside to discharge, so it will cause the thermal silicone sheet to form bubbles. In that case, all you need is to lower the molding temperature to the standard level.

Unreasonable structure of the mold. If the design of the silicone mold for example, the arrangement of products in the mold, the partitioning method, the mold parting method, and the design of the mold size, will also cause bubbles.

The vulcanization time is too short. Like the vulcanization temperature, the vulcanization time is also one of the important parameters for the molding of the thermally conductive silicone sheet. The length of the vulcanization time determines whether the thermally conductive silicone sheet can be fully cured. If the vulcanization time is too short, the thermal conductive silicone sheet will become soft and bubbling after molding. In that case, you can extend the vulcanization time.

Normally, users wont encounter such problems as the defected products will be ruled out during the examination process. So dont worry, the silicone products in your home are still intact and can be used for a long time.
